Backgammon is the oldest known game in recorded history. It has been called as the "little battle," backgammon started in ancient middle east about five thousand years ago. However, Egyptians referred to backgammon as "Senat," which is a close style of the present game enjoyed today. Hundreds of years ago, just citizens in influence, the ruling figures of aristocracy like Egyptian kings, were able to play. The game started to grow around the world since then. Distinctive Backgammon variants have been created in many regions and societies, but the main protocols of those versions look like that of the archaic form . For instance, The Greeks took hold of the game and called it by the name "bac gamen." From there, the Anglo’s started playing backgammon in the 1600’s and have continued to play it ever since. Backgammon and competing ancient games weren’t ever acknowledged by many churches. The churchgoers believe that the game was the tool of Beelzebub. This caused clergy to blacklist and burn the game. The blacklisting and burning did not stop many people betting on games and having fun.
Technology offers a new platform for Backgammon. When various video games are available all over the place, computer researchers in Artificial Intelligence (AI) use Backgammon for doing research, developing and testing AI theories and formulas as a consequence of the simplicity of game codes and difficulties of tactics.
