The aim of a Backgammon match is to move your chips around the game board and bear them from the game board quicker than your competitor who works harder to do the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Winning a game of Backgammon requires both strategy and good luck. How far you will be able to shift your chips is up to the numbers from tossing the dice, and the way you shift your checkers are determined by your overall playing strategies. Players use different strategies in the different parts of a match depending on your positions and opponent’s.
The Running Game Technique
The goal of the Running Game technique is to bring all your checkers into your inside board and bear them off as quickly as you could. This plan concentrates on the speed of moving your checkers with little or no efforts to hit or barricade your competitor’s pieces. The best scenario to use this tactic is when you think you might be able to move your own checkers faster than the opposition does: when 1) you have a fewer chips on the board; 2) all your chips have moved beyond your opponent’s checkers; or 3) the opponent does not employ the hitting or blocking technique.
The Blocking Game Plan
The primary aim of the blocking strategy, by its name, is to stop the competitor’s pieces, temporarily, while not fretting about moving your pieces quickly. As soon as you’ve established the barrier for your opponent’s movement with a few pieces, you can move your other pieces quickly from the game board. The player will need to also have an apparent plan when to extract and move the chips that you employed for blocking. The game becomes interesting when the opponent utilizes the same blocking strategy.
