The Basics of Backgammon Game Plans – Part 2

As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of skill and luck. The goal is to move your chips safely around the game board to your home board while at the same time your opponent shifts their checkers toward their home board in the opposite direction. With opposing player checkers shifting in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for specific tactics at specific times. Here are the 2 final Backgammon strategies to round out your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the aim of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to move her pieces, the Priming Game plan is to absolutely barricade any movement of the opposing player by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get hit, or end up in a damaged position if she at all tries to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be built anyplace between point two and point 11 in your board. Once you’ve successfully constructed the prime to stop the activity of your competitor, your opponent doesn’t even get a chance to roll the dice, that means you shift your pieces and toss the dice again. You will be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The aims of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game tactic are very similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions in hope to better your chances of winning, however the Back Game plan relies on seperate techniques to do that. The Back Game strategy is frequently employed when you’re far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this plan, you need to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This plan is more complex than others to employ in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your chips and how the checkers are relocated is partially the outcome of the dice toss.
